Cinco de Mayo

Join ¡HICA! for its Cinco de Mayo Open House on Thursday, May 5 from 4-7 p.m. Check out the agency’s new mural and hear stories and the latest news about ¡HICA!, a community development and advocacy organization that advocates economic equality, civic engagement, and social justice for Latino families in Alabama. Cullman Strawberry Festival

The Cullman Strawberry Festival features live music, crafts, food vendors, rides, a vintage car show, human and dog contests, a baking contest, games, and fresh strawberries. Mozart and Brahms at the Alys Stephens Center

  • May 6 – Mozart’s ’40th Symphony’: Featuring iconic melodies of breathtaking passion, this Alabama Symphony Orchestra concert will illustrate some of the famous composer’s darkest periods in the last summer of his life . The concert at the Alys Stephens Center in Birmingham is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Buy your tickets.
  • May 6-7 – Mozart’s ’40th Symphony’ and Brahms’ ‘First Piano Concerto’: Alongside Mozart’s 40th, Steven Spooner joins the orchestra for a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto, a virtuoso weaving of piano and orchestra. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Commentary providing an overview of the music will be given each evening at 6:15 p.m. in the Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall of the Alys Stephens Center. Decorators show house

Another way to support the Alabama Symphony Orchestra is by hosting the annual Decorators’ ShowHouse fundraiser through Sunday, May 8. Visitors will enjoy the visual delights of the 565-acre Hallmark Farms in northern Jefferson County. Parking is available at the property for $5. Strollers, food and drink are not allowed in the house. Interior photographs are not permitted. Food trucks will be on site daily. Tickets allow entry only on the date printed on the ticket. Mother’s Day Weekend at OWA

Moms just want to have fun at Tropic Falls Theme Park at OWA in Foley. Day passes are purchased, get one free for mom. Offer is valid May 6-8 for in-person purchases only. The free ticket will expire on the day of purchase and cannot be combined with other special events, promotions or discounts. Kids can make free gifts for mom, like coloring a gift bag or a Mother’s Day appreciation card from crafts on May 7 and 8 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the OWA wading pool and the alcove outside the Clash eSports Center. Free crafts for kids will be available while supplies last.

Mother’s Day Market at Cahaba Brewing Company

Moms will be admitted free to the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum on Sunday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. While you’re at the zoo with Mom, sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds of the United States Air Force Band of the Spectrum Winds West Component at the Overlook Café at 11 a.m. The Overlook Café will serve a Mother’s Day special for $11.
