BBC Great British Menu’s Tom Kerridge is selling a shepherd’s pie meal kit for a mere £80

Great Britain’s Menu judge, Tom Kerridge, is currently selling a premium-priced Shepherd’s pie meal kit. The chef is selling a range of kits from his pub, The Coach, Marlow so diners can enjoy his food from the comfort of their own home.

This meal is a twist on a British classic – Spicy shepherd’s pie – featuring a curried and slow-braised lamb shank pie. The full menu includes truffled Tunworth gougères, pot prawns, grilled sourdough and dill pickles, shepherd’s pie, curry, cilantro and mink mash, with hispi cabbage and dressing, and date and caramel pudding with Jersey clotted cream.

The meal kit, made for two, will set you back £79. Tom said of the dish: “We pride ourselves on using fantastic British ingredients and suppliers to make honest, comforting dishes full of strong, bold flavours.”

For those unsure what “gougères” are, the retailer’s website describes them as “an indulgent black truffle and Tunworth filling is served in crispy puffs topped with cheese.”

Tom revealed that shepherd’s pie had been a favorite of his since he was a child, and it was his mum who first added curry powder to the dish to give it a zing.

He said: “Shepherd’s pie has been a favorite since I was a kid.

“My mum always added a bit of mild curry powder to hers, so I made mine with an Indian spiced mash as a nod to my childhood – it works really well with lamb.”

Fans of the chef can also pick up his 12 Hour Beer Braised Beef Rib Meal Kit for the same tantalizing price. Earlier this year the chef came under fire for releasing a Valentine’s Day meal kit which cost £185.

The home cooking kit included three courses, including a selection of canapes, a gravadlax salmon starter, a beef wellington main course and the same sticky caramel pudding option for dessert. While a good number of people praised Tom for his “amazing” food, others winced at the price.

A mum-of-three wrote: “My food budget for the month as a single mum with 3 kids – looks amazing.”

Another said: “£185 for dinner for 2, no drinks, and cooking your own, seriously?! The ingredients seem 60% correct, 40% pretentious. No options either, like this or as a whole.

“Too bad you don’t have many options to choose from and it’s not half the ridiculous price too.”
