The Nutmeg Spice Company has been shipping its house brand bottled spices across the country for over a decade.

PLYMOUTH, Conn. – What started in a garage is now housed in three buildings and over 70,000 square feet of space in Terryville. You’ve probably seen their products on supermarket shelves, but maybe you didn’t know that.

The Nutmeg Spice Company has been shipping its house brand bottled spices across the country for over a decade. Dave Barrett is the lead partner and co-owner of Nutmeg Spice and said they have come a long way from their humble beginnings.

“We have 120 employees and we came here 11 years ago with 12 employees,” Barrett said.

From Cajun rubs to cookie crumbles and everything in between, Nutmeg Spice now sells 185 varieties of spices.

“We have thousands of retailers in 49 states, we go (deliver) to Alaska every week, we ship to the Bahamas and Bermuda, so we’re busy,” Barrett said.

Dave’s son, Landon Barrett, is the plant manager of the growing company. New spices and dessert toppings are always added to the list of offers.

“It changes every day…it’s fun,” said Dave Barrett. “I pinch myself every day, I was fired five times in the 90s, and to have it all come to fruition is a blessing.”
