FORT LEE, Va. – The new year is always an exciting time of review and recommitment, especially when it comes to wellness. Whatever health goals you’ve set out to achieve in 2022, the Commissioner is here to help point you in the right direction with tips, ideas, and resources for improving nutrition.

“Health and well-being is a key priority for our customers, so it’s vitally important to us,” said Bonita Moffett, director of sales for the Defense Commissary Agency. According to Deborah Harris, Registered Dietitian and Health and Wellness Program Manager at DeCA (who has a Masters in Public Health and is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Diabetes Care and Education), when Committed to healthier lifestyle and wellness goals, Commissar strives to keep customers motivated by offering easily identifiable high-performance foods and easy-to-use quick meal solutions and resources of well-being.

• Dietitian-Approved Thumbs Up (DAT): “Thumbs Up Dietitian-Approved” labels on shelves allow customers to quickly identify high-quality, nutritious foods to incorporate into a healthy eating pattern. DAT uses unique software that analyzes and identifies products in most Commissary food categories based on 86 FDA-defined health attributes. Attributes analyzed vary by food category, but will better identify dietitian-approved foods that limit added sugar, sodium, and unhealthy fats while offering whole grains, healthy fats, fiber, or protein lean, as well as identify items that qualify as USDA Organic. Once these products are identified, they are marked on store shelves with a “Thumbs Up Dietitian-Approved” label.

When placing your Commissary CLICK2GO order on Commissaries.com, click on the Recipe link (https://shop.commissaries.com/recipes), select the recipe you would like to add to your meal plan for the week and simply click the “Add to Cart” next to each of the ingredients you need to prepare the meal.
