In 2010, American Express adopted Small Business on Saturday as a way to celebrate local small businesses during the holiday shopping season.
A year later, the US Senate unanimously passed a resolution supporting the day. According to U.S. Small Business Administration, consumers spent an estimated $ 19.8 billion at home town retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturdays in 2020.
The SBA reports that there are over 32.5 million small businesses nationwide. About half of all American workers own or work in small businesses, which create two in three net new jobs.
