The Festival of Lights is now coming to an end as we mark Govardhan Pooja today. diwali is traditionally a 5 day affair which starts with Govatsa Dwadashi and ends with Bhai Dooj. According to the Hindu lunisolar calendar, Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha of the month of Kartika. This year, Bhai Dooj falls on October 26, 2022, and so we have a reason to keep the excitement alive. Also known as Bhau Beej, Bhatra Dwitiya, Bhai Dwitiya and Bhathru Dwithiya in different parts of the country, Bhai Dooj marks the treasured bond between siblings. During the day, the sisters apply tikas to the brother’s forehead and pray for his health, long life and prosperity. In return, the brother promises to protect her from evil forces.

Apart from the rituals, what makes the celebration of Bhai Dooj even more special is the exchange of gifts between brothers and sisters, followed by a big feast. Most Indian households celebrating Bhai Dooj prepare something special and lavish for lunch or dinner to mark the occasion. 1. Chat board

A charcuterie board but with chaat! Interesting, isn’t it? Who doesn’t like to devour chaats? Especially when it’s the holiday season. Paneer Soda

Contrary to what most North Indians reading this would think, paneer soda is not made from paneer which is cottage cheese to many. Paneer or Panneer here is another word for rose essence in Tamil. Hence, this South Indian soft drink is basically just a rose infused soda, which can easily be found in Tamil Nadu. To do this, you only need to prepare the rose syrup first. In a saucepan, heat the water, sugar and palm candy, bring to the boil, then simmer. Do this until the sugar and water are well mixed. Then add some rose essence to this sugar-water mixture, you can also use rose water or rose petals. Combine everything well. Let cool. Enjoy!
