Holiday Dessert Recipes to Try

If your family is like mine, food is a big part of the holiday season. And I’ll share with you some of our favorites.

As you might expect, my family bakes chocolate chip cookies, butter cookies, and sugar cookies. Our sugar cookies are different from most. Every year my family paints them with evaporated milk, food coloring and tiny paintbrushes. Each cookie shows the painter’s creativity.

We don’t just have cookies, we also have cakes, ice cream, brownies and pies. My favorite dessert is our homemade Pistachio Cake, a soft and chewy cake with Cool Whip silky frosting. It is shaped like a Christmas tree and is decorated with cherries and red and green nuggets.

Another of my favorite desserts is my family’s traditional Jewish Apple Cake, a wonderfully sweet and chewy cake with cinnamon-coated apples. An old family friend gave this recipe to my great-grandmother and it has been a family favorite ever since.

My family and friends are also looking forward to my grandma’s Chex mix, which she only makes during the Christmas season. This is a fabulous mix of Rice Chex cereal, peanuts and pretzel sticks covered in white chocolate. All my family and friends love it and ask me to send boxes of this delicious treat home.

Although our desserts are my favorite part, my family’s Christmas dinner comes in second. While traditionally ham or turkey is served for Christmas dinner, my family prefers baked ziti, meatballs, and pepperoni bread. On Christmas Eve and the nights after Christmas when we have extended family and friends we also have delicious dishes such as steak, roast pork, kielbasa and sauerkraut, but the desserts are always the point. climax for me.

Jewish apple cake


  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup of oil
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 4 apples, thinly sliced
  • 5 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon

Instructions: Mix the dough, layer the dough, then sprinkle the apples with sugar + cinnamon until exhausted, bake at 350 degrees, it takes 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Chex mix


  • 1 sachet of vanilla fondant
  • 1 box of Chex rice
  • 1 jar of peanuts
  • Pretzel sticks

Instructions: Preheat the oven to 250, then turn off, put the fondant in a glass dish and put in the oven off for 30 minutes to melt the chocolate. Combine the peanuts, Rice Chex cereal and pretzels in a large bowl, pour the melted chocolate over the large bowl, toss and spread the mixture on a buttered baking sheet, let cool.

pistachio cake


  • 4 eggs
  • half a cup of oil
  • yellow cake mix
  • 1 packet of instant pistachio pudding
  • 1 cup club soda and half a cup chopped walnuts

Instructions: Preheat the oven to 350, grease the flour mold. Beat eggs and half a cup of oil for 4 minutes, add and beat well 1 pkg yellow cake mix, 1 pkg pistachio instant pudding, 1 cup club soda and half a cup chopped walnuts.

Cook 45-50 minutes

Ingredients for the filling: 1/2 cup of milk, 1 package of instant pistachio pudding and 1 cup of fresh whisk. Mix, add to the cooled cake.
