Are you one of those people who have decided to stay around the house during the holidays this year? If so, read on.

Review the following list of home vacation ideas. I guess you will find several things there that you will want to do. You might even decide to keep the list for future reference. Prepare a pen or pencil to circle your favorites.

• Take the walk you postponed.

• Go for a walk in the countryside.

• Call friends you haven’t spoken to for a long time.

• If you have a spare bedroom, spend the night in that bedroom and pretend you are in an Airbnb.

• Write a letter or send a card to an elderly family member or family friend.

• Take a long, hot bath while listening to soothing music.

• Take a nap in the middle of the day.

• Go on a date night with your sweetheart.

• Just look out into space and let your mind wander.

• Stay up late and sleep late the next day.

• Go to bed earlier than usual.

• Weather permitting, spread a blanket in your yard and gaze at the stars.

• Going to the gym. (You know, the one you joined months ago.)

• Bring a friend for dessert.

• Visit the local museum.

• Go to your favorite thrift stores.

• Go to the library and consult a book / movie / or a book on tape.

• Go out and play one of your favorite board games.

• Go on a hike.

• Update your house numbers.

• Treat yourself to a manicure and / or pedicure.

• Call a friend who is going through a difficult time and tell them that you are thinking of them and praying for them.

• Empty a waste drawer and clean and organize it.

• If time permits, paint your front door a new color.

• Collect all the magazines you haven’t had time to read, jump in bed and go through them until you fall asleep.

• Walk around the neighborhood.

• Replace burnt out bulbs.

• Go outside and take close-up photos of plants, flowers and insects.

• Take a nature walk and capture interesting photos along the trail.

• Clean your refrigerator.

• Go to the lake or other place that you find peaceful and let your mind wander.

• Pack a simple picnic and find a fun place to enjoy it with someone special.

• Do things that you wouldn’t normally do outside of your routine.

• If you are lucky enough to still have living parents, write them a letter of appreciation.

• Sharpen dull knives that need sharpening for a while.

• Invite a friend over for an afternoon snack.

• Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

• Thoroughly clean the microwave oven.

• Complete a project you started.

• If you feel comfortable, choose a room in your home to clean, declutter, and redecorate using what you already have on hand.

• Prepare a dessert and share it with a neighbor.

• Energetic? Take out your files, shrink them and shred, shred, shred.

• Do you have an old piece of furniture to refresh? Give it a new coat of paint.

• Put together a puzzle.

• Clean your socks.

• Clean and store under the kitchen sink.

• Take the time to snuggle up to your pet.

• Take your dog (s) for a longer walk than usual.

• Visit an older family friend or someone from your church.

• Declutter and rearrange your wardrobe.

• Watch a funny movie.

• Enjoy being with yourself and with those you love. Cherish the moments you have now. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

There are, of course, many other ideas that could be shared; however, I hope you have found a few that can make your vacation home enjoyable for you. The main thing is to relax and do things that you wouldn’t normally do or have more time to do every day.
