A local business is hoping to make the holidays brighter for children in need and is seeking help.
“Prior to 2005, Apollo Beach Chamber used its December after-hours activities to collect toys for Toy for Tots for the holiday season,” said Ann Hathaway, account manager for Pearson Capital. “When this tradition came to an end, Don Pearson, our Executive Director, felt the community could help and distributed about 25 boxes to businesses in the area with the idea of Pearson Capital having a party to bring the full boxes into one. only place for the Marines to collect. “
This place was the VFW post in Ruskin. The local chambers of commerce have all mobilized to promote the event to their members, businesses and individuals have joined them and things have multiplied.
Over the years, the event grew so big that the VFW station could no longer accommodate the crowds.
“That’s when The Alley at Southshore got started and partnered with Pearson,” Hathaway said. “On the day of the event, The Alley hosted Marines, businesses, families, individuals and of course Santa Claus,” she said. “Guests were treated to a wonderful buffet with soft drinks and desserts, among the thousands of toys and bicycles that pack the building.”
Pearson Capital is always on the lookout for more locations to host a box, and with all the new growth in the SouthShore area, there are plenty of places that haven’t been exploited.
“Offices, stores, restaurants and housing communities can all participate,” Hathaway said. “They just need to let me know that they would like to help. If you can’t house a box, be sure to drop a toy or two wherever you see one. You can always join us for our fundraising event and donate there. And it goes without saying that we also accept cash donations. This money still helps the Marines fill in the gaps for babies and tweens that seem to be happening. “
If you would like to help Person Capital, Inc. collect toys for Toys for Tots, contact Hathaway at 645-6392. On Saturday, December 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Pearson Capital and The Alley at Southshore will host a toy drop-off event.
“We will have some goodies to share for those who drop off their boxes and maybe Santa will be on hand to greet you,” Hathaway said. “The Marines will also be present to load these trucks. “
