McDonald’s is bringing back a classic menu item

McDonald’s (MCD) – Get the McDonald’s Corporation report is the ideal fast food choice for the consumer who loves the classics.

While Taco Bell (YUM) – Get yum! Report Brands, Inc. is based on finding new ways to reuse the same dozen ingredients and KFC (YUM) – Get yum! Report Brands, Inc. is committed to creating the world’s fattest chicken sandwich, McDonald’s strategy has always been to find new ways to improve on its most beloved products.

He did it with the Quarter Pounder in 2018undergoing an arduous three-year process to swap frozen beef for fresh.

It also recently tested Tik-Tok-inspired “Menu Hacks” with its offerings, allowing consumers to pile fish, meat and even chicken nuggets on the same burger if they so choose. As expected, social media took it as far as possible.

For its newest food product, Mickey D’s has returned to its tried-and-tested formula, focusing on one of its most popular dessert options: fried pie.

That’s when someone in the meeting room said, “Hey, I have an idea. How about we put something salty in the pie instead of something sweet?”

If you’ve been eating at McDonald’s for a long time, you’ve probably seen (and probably eaten) the classic deep-fried dessert pie in a few different ways. Hot apple pie is the norm, of course. But the menu also featured blueberries, strawberries, pumpkins, and even a colorful holiday version with sprinkles.

Starting April 13, a new addition is coming to the collection, and as mentioned above, it’s the tasty variety (which makes one wonder why this hasn’t happened sooner).

McDonald’s Japanese Twitter account is also running a contest, starting April 7, for fans to win a free pie. Now 210 people can win one by following the account and tweeting using special hashtags.

If you prefer your pies for dessert rather than the main meal, McDonald’s Japan also offers a special cherry blossom pie to celebrate the annual season the country is known for.

Called Sakura Mochi Pie, it contains both cherry-flavored mochi and bean paste and sells for the same price as Bacon Potato Pie.

McDonald’s is always under pressure to find ways to innovate and keep customers interested, which is likely why it’s bringing back an item that customers have enjoyed in the past.

Its fourth-quarter earnings fell short of Wall Street forecasts, although net sales rose 13% to $6.01 billion.

So if McDonald’s wants to hit those numbers this year, it will have to stay focused on new ways to delight its customers. And judging by the popularity of its menu, anything hot and fried is probably a pretty good bet.
