BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – We may be a long way from France, but a new Bismarck company is bringing a French dessert closer. So if you’re looking for a place to treat yourself, The World of Macarons has plenty of gluten-free treats and just opened last week.
After Yana Lysa and her husband moved to North Dakota eight years ago from Vinnytsia, Ukraine, her love for her favorite pastime, baking, grew and she wanted to turn it into a business.
“I tried the macaroons here, and decided maybe I could offer fresh homemade macaroons, like real French desserts,” said Yana Lysa, baker and co-owner of The World of Macarons.
The macaron stand is open Friday to Sunday, 11am to 6pm, in the Kirkwood Mall, next to Aunt Annie’s Pretzels, and they are looking to extend their opening hours in the future.
After her family and friends complimented her macaroons, she knew it would be the perfect passion project. There are seven flavors on the newsstand right now, and it will rotate into fun new flavors every month.
“I cooked them for my friends for two years, and tried different recipes and different toppings, and then just practiced,” Lysa said.
She noticed that the only places she found macarons in Bismarck were at TJMaxx and Costco and wanted to give residents a chance to try her homemade gluten-free treats.
“I realized that a macaroon market didn’t appear here for commercial sale, so I decided to give it a try,” Lysa said.
Kiosk opening date updates can be found on their Facebook “Macarons – a world without limits of tastes!” It will also provide catering services for special events and birthdays.
