Running tab: new igloo menu from Luna, Mole Mexican, Winter Wonderland Market, Tavolata, Vieux Carré, 25 Days of Christmas and Park Lodge

Christmas has arrived early in Spokane, as there are a myriad of reasons to be thankful in the local culinary world, from returning meals at igloos and snow globes and the new Mexican Mole restaurant in Kendall Yards to events and activities. collaborative and interactive cooking for the whole family can enjoy.

Igloo and snow globe meal

One of the positive aspects of the pandemic is the creativity and adaptability of restaurants in establishing outdoor igloo and snow globe restaurants, and one restaurant at the top is Luna on the south hill. Luna launched an exclusive snow globe menu in November, and it’s exquisite.

The elevated experience includes Smoked Foxtrot and Golden Ticket cocktails as well as culinary offerings of shrimp and oatmeal, beef carpaccio, spicy carrots, salmon fettuccine, and braised oxtail. The snow globe and the menu are truly a festive and memorable holiday experience in town.

Other notable igloo and snow globe dining experiences include Bark, a Rescue Pub; Coeur d’Alene Resorts (you really can’t beat the view of Lac Coeur d’Alene); the Grand Davenport; and Osprey Restaurant & Bar at the Ruby River Hotel. Call ahead for information, including hours of service, restrictions and COVID-19 guidelines.

Mole Mexican at Kendall Yards

From the company whose umbrella includes Park Lodge and Umi Kitchen and Sushi Bar, Mole Mexican opened this month in the former Central Food space in Kendall Yards, and I walked into the restaurant on Wednesday night with three friends. The space is about the same, but the menu is very different.

The intentionally generous dinner, to try a bit of everything, included plentiful fries and salsa, mixto ceviche, chicken (red) mole tamales, chili relleno, mole ribs (black), barbacoa tacos, fish tacos, flan and margaritas, including mixed habanero mango and grilled pineapple. The mixto, tamales and chili relleno were the stars of the evening. Welcome to the neighborhood: Olé, Mole!

Winter wonderland market

Winter Wonderland Market, an iteration of the holiday season of the Wonder Saturday Market, at the Wonder Building, launched on November 18 and ends this Saturday. The indoor market benefits the Wishing Star Foundation and features local artisans, live music, crafts, food and drink, baked goods, and free cocoa for the kids.

I attended the launch and am delighted to report that many sellers, regulars at the Wonder Saturday Market, reported high, if not record, sales during the four hours, including Ethan Heffernan, 14, and his mother. , Leslie Heffernan, of NorthSide. Candle Co. I have introduced the teenager’s business before and wish him and all the vendors continued success.

Tavolata downtown

Along with the High Tide Lobster Bar and Evans Brothers Coffee, the Wonder Building’s third flagship tenant is Ethan Stowell’s Bosco. Its first new location in Spokane – Tavolata, downtown in the long-standing former space of the Olive Garden – hosts three events starting Sunday. First, decorating the cookies which includes cookie materials, a drink for mom and dad and a gift for the little one to take home with the cookies.

Tuesday evening is a beer dinner with YaYa Brewing. Local brewery beers Jason and Chris Gass will be detailed and served by Jason Gass in conjunction with a multi-course feast prepared by Tavolata’s culinary team. And finally, a Thursday cocktail class with Erik Carlson of Ethan Stowell Restaurants. Three festive cocktails will be offered alongside Tavolata aperitifs.

Family events, community collaborations and cocktail classes. Is it improving?

Michter’s Vieux Carré Whiskey Dinner

Speaking of collaborations, Sunday was Korri McElfresh’s Michter’s Whiskey Dinner at Vieux Carre NOLA Kitchen. It was one of the messiest dinners I have ever attended, and I loved every minute of it (thanks, Loverboy)!

On the menu: Carolina Gold elote pig’s head and chicharron with a Michter’s Old Fashioned, marinated Nashville Hot chicken wings with a Michter’s American Sour, Alabama White snow crab and egg injected with a Michter’s Boulevardier, Kansas City BBQ braised prime rib and Crackers (Fried Saltines!) with Michter’s Cinnamon Fizz and Sweet Potato Fritters with Cranberry Gastric.

Kudos to McElfresh, chefs Jeana Pecha and Andrew Blakely (the new executive chef) and Michter’s Raven Fuller for their evening of flavor, spice and all that is sweet. Pecha is expected to move to Sacramento in January to open his own restaurant.

Park Lodge reimagined

And announced last week via their social media: Park Lodge and its chef and owner Philip Stanton are revising the New Year’s menu to pivot amid the challenges of the pandemic, including rising food costs.

Who knows what changes await you, but at least you have until the end of the month for a final order of takeout, including French onion soup, steak fries, wild mushroom tagliatelle, half chicken. roast with wild mushrooms and the creme caramel jar, one of my all-time favorite desserts. Happy Holidays, and hi!
