Spartanburg Dessert Truck Gets a New Name and Look | Spartanburg Affairs

A Lyman couple who launched a mobile shaved ice business inspired by their daughter have expanded menu options, a new name and a new look.

Owners Natalie and Ryan Smith started the business in 2016 to spend more time with their daughter, Aspen, who was born 15 weeks earlier. Natalie Smith worked at Spartanburg Medical Center, where Aspen remained for 98 days after she was born.

The truck, which serves a variety of dessert options, was recently renamed Aspen Street Sweets. It was previously called Aspen Shaved Ice. There’s colorful new packaging and a new logo on the truck by Katazoom at Greer.

Natalie Smith said the new name emphasizes that they serve more than specialty shaved ice. Aspen Street Sweets offers funnel cakes, ice cream, cotton candy, bubble tea and shakes with multiple fresh toppings and flavor combinations.

The company started out as a part-time business, but now works full-time transporting the dessert truck to neighborhoods, corporate events, festivals, markets, birthday parties and weddings. .

“We go to many neighborhoods and bring the community together,” she said. “Our slogan is to serve up smiles for the mile, and that’s what we do.”

The Smiths wanted a physical location but added a second truck instead in May 2021. The business has five employees. May and June were their busiest months, but they saw an uptick in business throughout the year.

“I think people started calling us because with all the bad things going on, it was kind of a little piece of happiness,” Ryan Smith said. “We found out that a smile is what everyone needs right now.”

Those looking to book the truck for events can do so by visiting aspenshavedice.com.
