Takeaway owners reveal why they named the food company ‘2nd Wife’

THE owners of a new takeaway have explained why they decided to name their business “2nd Wife”.

The unusual name of the takeaway, located on Accrington Road Blackburn, has caught the attention of passers-by since the sign was put up two weeks ago.

Formerly the ‘Hot ‘n’ Tender’, 2nd Wife Blackburn serves pizza, desserts, drinks, burgers, kebabs and a range of milkshakes and cakes.

It even offers “special 2nd wife burgers” and the 12-inch “special 2nd wife pizza”.

However, local residents were puzzled as to why the name 2nd Wife was used.

The newly renovated take-out restaurant opened last Thursday and is the brainchild of brothers Nelson Zain and Farrukh Abbas and their business partner Mohammed Saad.

Farrukh said, “It certainly caught people’s attention and we had a few people come up to us asking why we chose that name.

“I know some people just took a picture of the sign.

“It’s assuming your wife isn’t into cooking, so why not call the second wife. It’s just a pun and nothing too serious.

Zain said, “We have registered the name locally and hopefully if it goes well we will open elsewhere.”

The name “Second Wife” is a common name for restaurants in Pakistan, especially in Karachi. The slogan there tends to be – “If your first wife doesn’t cook, call the second wife”.

The 14-seat takeaway restaurant itself has been revamped at a cost of £50,000 and specializes in pizzas, burgers and grilled chicken.

Farrukh added: “Our food is all freshly prepared and we have unique burgers that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

“Since our opening, we have had an excellent response from customers. This place has been a takeout since the 90s and it’s great to take over the location.”
