The cheesecake business takes off for the Charlestown couple


A Charlestown couple’s cheesecake business is growing rapidly and making waves on social media. Big Nita’s Cheesecake sells specialty cheesecakes and cheesecake desserts. Nicole Burks and Roberto Davila launched the business in 2019 after making cheesecakes for friends and family. They take special orders for whole cheesecakes. and do pop-up sales once a week at 619 Baxter Ave., the former Morrel’s Cafe. In October 2021, the couple purchased the cheesecake truck and began setting it up once a week in Charlestown, where they live, to sell individual desserts. Burks and Davila often post on Facebook and in their group, letting people know the flavors of the week and the time, date and location of their pop-ups. The group has more than 10,000 subscribers. Burks said all of their orders are facilitated by Facebook. She said it’s because of Facebook that the company has grown as fast as it has. Burks quit his full-time job to focus on Big Nita’s cheesecakes last February, and Davilla followed soon after in the fall. “We quickly realized things were getting too much to handle,” Burks said. “That’s when we both took a step back from our current full-time jobs and really started to make a career out of it.” Louisville is every Sunday at 619 Baxter Ave. from noon to 4 p.m. This is a shared baking space with other local bakers, so several other businesses will be selling their wares as well. Big Nita’s Cheesecakes Truck is based in Charlestown at 904 Market St. every Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

Pop-up sales in Louisville are held every Sunday at 619 Baxter Ave. noon to 4 p.m.
