JEFFERSON – Murder, mystery and history buffs are invited to hone their detective skills for a full weekend of interactive play in the historic bayou town of Jefferson.

The Gumshoe Society of San Antonio has partnered with the historic owners of the Jefferson Hotel, Jeromy and Pam Jones, to host the “Murder at the Jefferson Hotel”, an interactive murder/mystery event.

The Jones said only a few rooms are still available for the full weekend event which will offer guests a chance to explore and learn not only the history of the Jefferson Hotel, but also the rich history of Jefferson.

“This is a one-of-a-kind immersive event in the city that was once supposed to be bigger than New Orleans,” the Gumshoe Society said in an online statement. “The coolest hotel in the coolest city, full of antiques, amazing and bizarre history, right across the street from the bayou with the largest population of cypress trees in the US”

Guests are invited to join other hotel guests as they search for clues to solve the mysterious “murder” while enjoying all that the town of Jefferson has to offer.

“The people are friendly. The restaurants are great. The bourbon is flowing from the riverboats,” the Gumshoe Society said online. “It’s not a weekend to miss.”

Attendees are encouraged to enjoy a full weekend program beginning Friday evening with a nightcap, light desserts and hors d’oeuvres. The next day’s fun will begin with a salon meeting, followed by an evening stroll and nightcap.

Guests of the “Murder at the Jefferson Hotel” event must book a minimum two-night stay. Tickets for the event are $150 and do not include the cost of rooms. Public tickets will be available once the hotel is full.

Event-goers are encouraged to participate at their own level of comfort during the fully immersive and interactive event. Guests are invited to participate by dressing up as a member of the town of Jefferson from the 1800s or taking on the characteristics of a particular character in the mystery.

“We are not pressuring any guest to fully participate,” the Gumshoe Society said online. “You can just watch and enjoy, if you want. You can also come as is and enjoy and participate in the survey. If you want to fully immerse yourself, the period you will enter is the late 1800s. Period outfits and even characters are welcome. There is a walking portion of the event, but it covers less than a mile in total and takes an hour.

To make hotel reservations, contact the Jefferson Hotel, located at 124 W. Austin St. in downtown Jefferson, by calling (901) 468-3551 or visiting the website at www.historicjefferson.com.
